Newport Harbor Walk Dinghy Planter Featured as Success Story
The Collaborative Work of Friends of the Waterfrontand URI Master Gardener’s Harbor Walk Dinghy Planters receives national recognition by MJV
The Monarch Joint Venture is a national partnership of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic programs working together to conserve the monarch butterfly migration.
Due to development along the Newport waterfront’s shoreline the repurposed boat planters serve as crucial habitats for Monarch butterflies and other pollinators. These up-cycled dinghy planters provide a variety of native Rhode Island plants as the food and nectar sources for adult monarchs and caterpillars.
